          Wennstrom(1987)  suggested thickness may be a more important dimension to concern    orthodontists and periodontists than the width of the keratinised tissue

         Orthodontic movement beyond the basal bone limits greatly increases the recession risk

    Increased by non-extraction, arch expansion techniques

    Consider limits of non-surgical treatment- especially careful evaluation of borderline cases (Handleman 1996)

    Ortho coupled with;

            Poor oral hygiene,

            Periodontal inflammation

            Thin tissue biotype

            Plaque retentive appliances

            Bony dehiscences and fenestrations
